Description

🚲 A week-long city bike rental in Biarritz is the choice of the holidaymaker who wants to truly immerse themselves in the city — not visit it, but inhabit it for a week.

🌊 With a lightweight, nimble city bike with 21 gears to handle the hills effortlessly, you become the temporary resident of one of the most vibrant cities on the Basque Coast: the Halles market in the morning, the Grande Plage at noon, the old town lanes in the afternoon, the seafront at sunset. And the next day, a different beach, a different neighbourhood, a different atmosphere.

☀️ Over seven days, you have time to explore everything: Biarritz and its seven beaches, Anglet and its 11km of sand, Bayonne and its jambon market, the viewpoints that reveal the Pyrenees on the horizon.

💶 €140 for 7 consecutive days — €20 per day, and €35 less than seven individual bookings. The equivalent of a whole day's rental for free, to experience Biarritz differently.

How the activity works

1

🛒 Step 1 — Book online & collect on arrival

Reserve your week online at the Takamaka website and select your extras (basket, panniers, child seat, phone holder). On arrival in Biarritz, head to the shop — 250 metres from the Grande Plage — to collect your bike adjusted to your height, helmet and lock. The team can suggest circuits and timings based on your plans for the week. Then you're off — and the bike stays with you until the last day.
2

🌊 Step 2 — Days 1 to 3: finding your feet in Biarritz

The first few days, explore Biarritz in a way you never have before — no imposed schedule, no coach timetable, no group. Each morning, a different direction: the northern beaches one day, the city centre and its terraces the next, the Côte des Basques and its Pyrenees view the day after. The bike naturally becomes the obvious way to get around — fast, practical, and always there when you need it.
3

☀️ Step 3 — Days 4 to 6: venturing beyond Biarritz

4

🔁 Step 4 — Day 7: the last ride & return

Last day, one more ride — perhaps the finest one, because you know it's the last. Return to the Takamaka shop to hand back your bike within the agreed time. Quick check, done. You leave carrying a full week of Biarritz on two wheels in your memory — and the irresistible desire to come back next summer.

FAQ

What's the difference between the city bike week and the trekking bike week?

Both are offered at €140 for the week, but the bikes and uses are different. The city bike is lighter and more nimble — ideal for daily rides around Biarritz and nearby (Bayonne, Anglet), on the coastal cycling paths and city streets. The trekking bike (VTC) is sturdier and more versatile — designed for country lanes, long-distance routes on the Vélodyssée, and excursions into the Basque hinterland (Espelette, La Rhune, Hendaye). Choose based on your plans for the week.

Do I need to use the bike every day to get value from the weekly rental?

No — the weekly rental covers 7 consecutive days during which the bike is at your disposal, whether you use it every day or not. The formula makes sense financially from five or more days of use. And even on rainy days or lazy beach days, knowing the bike is there and ready at any moment genuinely changes how you experience your holiday.

What local experiences can you have on a city bike over a week in Biarritz?

The list is long: the Halles market at opening time when locals do their shopping, the Grande Plage before 9am when the surfers still have the water to themselves, the old town lanes without the tourist coaches, the Virgin's Rock at sunrise or sunset, the terraces of rue Gambetta in the early afternoon, Bayonne and its ramparts on a festival day. The city bike lets you access all of this with a spontaneity that no tourist bus can offer.

Is the city bike suitable for riding to Bayonne or Anglet from Biarritz?

Yes — and these day trips are particularly enjoyable on a city bike. Anglet is 20 minutes from the shop via the coastal cycling path — one of the most beautiful linear rides in the Basque Country. Bayonne is 30-40 minutes to the north. Most of the route runs on flat, secure cycling paths. The 21-speed transmission handles the occasional hill along the way without effort.
