How the activity works

1

🛂 Step 1 — Check-in at the Hendaye base

Arrive at the Hendaye nautical base with your boat licence and ID. The Takamaka team checks your documents, registers the €2,000 deposit, and hands over your machine — stand-up or sit-down, your call. A quick briefing covers machine specifics, the navigation area, and key safety guidelines. Everything is crystal clear before you pull away.
2

🛡️ Step 2 — Warm-up in Txingudi bay

Head into the sheltered Txingudi bay to shake off the rust and get back in sync with the machine. Calm water, open space, minimal traffic — the perfect setting to warm up the engine and dial in your riding before heading out to the open Atlantic. A few passes and the jet ski feels like an extension of yourself.
3

🌊 Step 3 — 2 hours of free exploration on the Basque Coast

This is your time — all two hours of it. Ride the Bidasoa canal out to sea, then write your own itinerary: Basque cliff faces, the open bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, full-throttle runs in open water, quiet moments drifting in front of the panorama. The agenda is yours and yours alone.
4

🏁 Step 4 — Return & handover

After 1 hour on the Atlantic, bring the machine back to the Hendaye base for the return check. The team runs through the handover, your deposit is released, and you head off carrying one of the best jet ski sessions the Basque Coast has ever given you.

FAQ

What licence do I need to rent a jet ski independently at Hendaye?

A valid boat licence is required for self-guided rental, matched to your chosen machine type — stand-up or sit-down. You'll need to present your licence and valid ID at pick-up. If you don't have a licence, our guided 1-hour tour is available to anyone aged 16 and over — no licence needed.

What's the difference between a stand-up and a sit-down jet ski?

The stand-up jet ski (jet à bras) is ridden upright, giving maximum freedom of movement and a more physical, surf-inspired riding experience. The sit-down (à selle) is ridden like a motorbike on water — more accessible and comfortable for longer sessions. Takamaka offers both; the choice is yours based on experience and preference.

What's the difference between this 1-hour rental and the guided 1-hour tour?

The guided 1-hour tour is led by a state-certified instructor and open to anyone aged 16+ — ideal for first-timers or those wanting a structured experience. The 1-hour rental is for licence-holding riders who want total freedom to explore the Basque Coast at their own pace, for longer, without a set itinerary. Two complementary products, two very different rider profiles.

Is fuel included in the rental price?

No — fuel is the client's responsibility for this self-guided rental. This is clearly stated upfront. We recommend confirming the practical details (full tank provided, fuel top-up on return, etc.) directly with the Takamaka team before your session.

What happens if the weather or sea conditions are poor?

Safety on the water always takes priority. If conditions are unfavourable — strong winds, heavy swell, or poor visibility — Takamaka may cancel or reschedule the rental. Contact the team before your session to understand the cancellation and refund policy that applies to your booking.

Can we rent multiple jet skis for a group outing?

Absolutely — multi-jet-ski rentals are possible and make this an outstanding choice for a stag party, corporate outing, or group of experienced riders. For group bookings, contact the Takamaka team directly on 05.59.24.11.84 or at biarritz@takamaka.fr to check availability and arrange a tailored session.
