How the activity works

1

🤝 Step 1 — Welcome & choose your kayak

Welcome to Saint-Jean-de-Luz! The Takamaka team meets you at the launch point and walks you through the kayak options: single for those who want to set their own pace, double for those who want to share the experience. You're fitted out, briefed on paddle technique and sea safety guidelines — clear, quick, and reassuring before you touch the water.
2

🎓 Step 2 — Getting started & first strokes

Into the calm bay waters for your first paddle strokes. You find your seat, your balance, your rhythm. Within minutes, the kayak responds exactly as you intend and the surface of the water becomes your playground. For first-timers, it's a revelation. For experienced paddlers, it's an immediate return to the pure pleasure of gliding through the sea.
3

🌊 Step 3 — Coastal paddling along the Basque cliffs

Time to explore the wild coast. You follow the shoreline of the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, discover the Basque cliffs from sea level, weave between rocks, spot marine life, and breathe in the salt air of the Atlantic. Far from the beach crowds, the only sounds are the waves and the rhythm of your paddles. A complete escape, just a few paddle strokes from shore.
4

🏁 Step 4 — Back to shore & memories that last

After 2 hours of coastal exploration, you paddle back to the launch point, still under the spell of the Basque panorama. Kayaks returned, you head off carrying images of cliffs, hidden coves, and open Atlantic that most holidaymakers never get close enough to see.

FAQ

Do I need kayaking experience to join the session?

No experience needed. The activity is fully accessible to complete beginners: a paddling initiation is built into the start of the session in the calm waters of the bay. If you've kayaked before, you'll find your rhythm quickly and can focus on exploring the coastline from the very start.

Do I need to be able to swim to go sea kayaking?

Swimming ability is generally recommended for any open-water sea activity. The provided CE-certified life jacket ensures buoyancy in all circumstances.

Should I choose a single or double kayak?

It depends on your profile and what you're after. The single kayak offers total freedom — your pace, your course, the solitude of the open sea. The double is ideal for couples or friends who want to share the effort and discovery together — and it's also easier for beginners, who benefit from the support of a co-paddler keeping the boat steady.

Does the session run in bad weather?

Safety at sea always comes first. If conditions are unfavourable — strong winds, heavy swell, or poor visibility — Takamaka may cancel or reschedule the outing. Exact cancellation and refund terms are not detailed on the product page — contact the team before booking to understand the policy that applies.

Can I book sea kayaking for a group or stag party?

Absolutely — sea kayaking is a great activity for groups, stag and hen parties, or team building outings. Multiple kayaks can head out together for a sociable and sporty session on the bay. For group bookings, contact the Takamaka team directly on 05.59.24.11.84 or at biarritz@takamaka.fr to organise a tailored session.
