Description

⛵ A sailing trip on the Basque Coast is the most peaceful, elegant, and transporting experience in the Takamaka catalogue — an invitation to see Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, and their dramatic cliffs as you've never seen them before, from the open Atlantic.

🌊 On board the sailing boat, Nico — a passionate skipper — glides you along the Basque coastline, past majestic cliffs and hidden coves unreachable by any other means. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced sailor, you can take an active part in the navigation: hold the helm, trim the sails, read the chart — new sensations that Nico shares with real generosity.

🗺️ Two time slots available: morning or afternoon , for 3 hours of open-sea sailing on the Basque Coast.

🎁 The sailing trip is also one of the finest gift ideas in the Takamaka catalogue — for a birthday, a romantic stag or hen party, or an exceptional moment shared as a couple, from €65 per person.

How the activity works

1

⛵ Step 1 — Boarding & introduction to the boat

Meet Nico at the harbour and get acquainted with your boat for the half-day. The skipper welcomes you, walks you through the sailing boat — how it works, its key elements, on-board safety — and takes a moment to understand what you want from the experience: a pure contemplative cruise, or an active sailing initiation? The session is built around you from the very first minutes.
2

🗺️ Step 2 — Cast off & heading for the cliffs

The boat leaves the harbour and sets course along the Basque Coast. Nico explains how he reads the wind, chooses the route, and trims the sails to the conditions. If you want to get involved, this is your moment: take the helm, feel the wind in the sails, understand how a sailboat responds. The shoreline recedes, and the Basque Coast reveals itself in all its grandeur from the open sea.
3

🌊 Step 3 — Cliffs, coves & open water

This is the heart of the trip: sailing along the Basque cliffs from sea level, gliding past coves that only a sailing boat can approach, navigating between Biarritz, Hendaye, and Saint-Jean-de-Luz with the Pyrenees as a backdrop. Nico shares stories of this coastline, his navigation insights, and his love for the Atlantic. Time slows down for a perfect half-day.
4

🏁 Step 4 — Back to harbour & memories made

The half-day draws to a close and the boat heads back to port. Nico moors with the same calm ease he sailed with. You step off the boat carrying images of the Basque Coast that few visitors ever get to bring home — and very probably the desire to come back soon.

FAQ

Do I need sailing experience to join the trip?

No experience is necessary. Nico adapts entirely to your skill level: if you are a beginner, he handles all the sailing and gently introduces you to the basics. If you have experience, he gives you more autonomy and responsibility on board. The outing is truly designed for everyone.

What is the minimum number of participants for the trip to run?

The trip only runs with a minimum of 2 participants. If you're booking alone, contact the Takamaka team to check whether other participants are already registered for your chosen slot, or to organise a private trip.

What should I bring for the sailing trip?

We recommend that you have: swimwear, towel, sunglasses, a windproof jacket, and warm clothes. The warm clothing point is important — even in summer, the sea can be cool and the wind can pick up quickly offshore. Better to have too much than too little. On-board safety equipment is provided and CE-certified.

Does the sailing trip run in bad weather?

Sailing depends on weather conditions — strong winds, heavy swell, or poor visibility may require cancellation or rescheduling. Takamaka and Nico always make the safest decision for everyone on board. Contact the team before your session to understand the current cancellation policy.

Is a sailing trip a good gift idea or couple's activity?

It's one of the finest gift ideas in the Takamaka catalogue — elegant, original, memorable, and accessible to all. The half-day sailing trip is perfect for a birthday, a romantic outing as a couple, a sophisticated hen party, or simply giving someone you love an exceptional moment on the Atlantic.
