Description

🏄 The 3-session surf mini camp in Biarritz is the ideal formula for those who have a few days and want to genuinely improve — not just taste the wave, but go home knowing how to surf.

🌊 The difference between an initiation and a mini camp is progression. In the first session, you learn the basics and stand up on the whitewater. In the second, the movements start to feel embedded, you read waves better, you start choosing your rides. In the third, something shifts: you surf with intention, not just luck. Your Takamaka instructors know exactly what each session can deliver and build your progression coherently from one day to the next.

🏖️ Three sessions at the Côte des Basques, in groups of maximum 8 students per instructor, with lessons timed around the best tidal and wave conditions of the day — that's what the Takamaka mini camp offers

How the activity works

1

🛒 Step 1 — Book & lesson time confirmation

Reserve your mini camp online at the Takamaka website. The booking slot shows 2pm — this is not your lesson time. The exact time of each session is determined by the day's conditions (tides, waves). Contact the team on 05 59 24 11 84 or at team1@takamaka.fr for your precise lesson times. Also confirm whether your 3 days can be non-consecutive if your trip requires it.
2

🏖️ Step 2 — Session 1: the basics and the first wave

Head to the Côte des Basques at the confirmed time. Kit up, level groups formed, warm-up and theory on the sand. Then into the water with your softboard and your instructor. The day's objective: understand the position, find balance, catch the first whitewater. Most participants stand up in this first session. The instructor observes, corrects, encourages — and notes precisely what each student needs to work on the following day.
3

🌊 Step 3 — Sessions 2 & 3: visible, concrete progress

Sessions 2 and 3 are where the mini camp makes complete sense. Your instructor picks up exactly where they left you — corrections are precise, exercises progressive, objectives clear. You start reading waves rather than being surprised by them. By the end of the third session, the difference from your level on day one is noticeable, measurable, and often striking — even to you.
4

🎯 Step 4 — Review & natural next step

At the end of the mini camp, your instructor runs through your 3-session progression and advises on next steps. Many participants go on to the 5-day relaxed camp (€190) to consolidate what they've gained. Others return the following year with a solid intermediate level. Either way, you leave Biarritz with one certainty: you surf.

Why choose Takamaka ?

🏅 Biarritz isn't just a town on the Atlantic coast — it's Europe's surf capital, the place where surfing was introduced to the continent in the 1950s, and the Côte des Basques is one of the most iconic waves on the continent. Taking your first surf lesson here isn't just learning a sport — it's entering a history, a culture, a global community.
🌊 The surf school has been based on this legendary beach. Its qualified instructors know every sandbank, every current, every tidal shift that changes the way the waves break that day. This isn't an industrial surf school that sends 50 beginners into the water at once — it's a human-scale operation, groups of maximum 8 students, where your real progression and your safety are the priority.

FAQ

Do I need to have done an initiation first to join the mini camp?

No — the mini camp is open to complete beginners. If this is your first contact with surfing, the first of the 3 sessions serves as the initiation. You can also combine an initiation and then the mini camp in the same trip, but it isn't required. Lessons are organised based on your real level, whatever your prior experience.

Can I continue with a 5-day camp after the mini camp?

Yes — and that's the natural progression. After the mini camp , the relaxed 5-day camp allows you to consolidate and deepen what you've acquired. The intensive camp is the formula for those who want to progress as fast as possible. 5-day camps start on Mondays only.

Is the mini camp suitable for children?

The surf school organises lessons for all ages, with groups separated by level and age. For the minimum age for the mini camp and specific conditions for children, contact the team on 05 59 24 11 84 before booking.
