How the activity works

1

⛵ Step 1 — 10am: boarding & heading out to sea

Meet Nico at the harbour mid-morning. He welcomes you aboard the 8m sailing boat, gets you settled and equipped, and takes a moment to understand what you want from the day. The sea is still calm at this hour — perfect for a gentle departure, learning the basic moves, and leaving the harbour with ease. The Basque sky opens up ahead. The day begins.
2

🌅 Step 2 — Morning: the cliffs in morning light

The first hours at sea are often the most beautiful. The low morning light shapes the Basque cliffs in a way that's unique to this hour — their ochre and green tones more vivid, the coves opening quietly along the shore. Nico reveals the coastline's secrets as you sail, invites willing hands to take the helm, and sets the pace to match the group's mood. The rhythm of the sailboat takes over from the rhythm of the world.
3

🏖️ Step 3 — Afternoon: coves, sailing & open water

The day unfolds at its own pace: a hidden cove for a break and a swim, an active sailing stretch for those who want to learn to trim the sails and chart a course, a moment in open water with the Pyrenees on the horizon. Every hour brings something new — and Nico is there to make sure the day is exactly what you needed, no more and no less.
4

🌇 Step 4 — 5pm: back to port, still at sea in your mind

At 5pm, the sailing boat returns to harbour. Nico moors with the same calm ease he sailed all day. You step onto the dock carrying something hard to name — a lightness, a fullness, the rare sensation of having truly cast off. The Basque Coast will never look quite the same as it did this morning.

Why choose Takamaka ?

Takamaka was born from a desire to develop outdoor experiences rooted in the territories themselves.

Over the years, the network has grown around several destinations while preserving a local and human-centered approach. The goal has never been to standardize formats, but to adapt each project to the specific characteristics of the location and the expectations of participants.

FAQ

Do I need sailing experience for the full day?

No experience needed — difficulty is rated 1/5 and Nico adapts entirely to your level. The full day is actually ideal for beginners who want to go further than a half-day allows: with 7 hours on board, there's genuine time to learn the helm, read the wind, trim the sails, and understand how a sailboat really works.

Can I actively participate in sailing the boat during the day?

Yes — and that's one of the great advantages of the full-day format. With 7 hours on board, there's time to really learn: Nico can teach you to hold the helm for extended periods, manoeuvre under engine and sail, read a nautical chart, and plan your route. A genuinely progressive initiation that a half-day simply doesn't have time to offer fully.

What should I wear for a full day at sea?

It is recommended to have a swimsuit, towel, sunglasses, a windproof jacket, and warm clothes. The warm layers are especially important for a full day — even in high summer, wind and sea can turn cool quickly offshore. Plan for multiple layers and don't rely solely on the Basque sunshine you'll have seen from the beach.

Does the full-day trip run in bad weather?

Sailing always depends on weather conditions — strong winds, heavy swell, or poor visibility may require cancellation or rescheduling. Nico and the Takamaka team always make the safest call.

Is the full-day sailing trip a good option for a stag party or birthday?

It's one of the most elegant and memorable experiences Takamaka offers — a full day at sea on the Basque Coast with Nico is an exceptional gift for a milestone birthday, a sophisticated stag or hen party, a leadership offsite, or simply an extraordinary day given to someone you love.
