Description

⚡ The Takamaka Performance E-Bike in Biarritz is the e-bike that redefines what you can do in a single day on the Basque Coast — and in the hinterland that looks so different from it yet belongs to the same territory.

🚴 Made by Lapierre, powered by a Bosch Active Line mid-drive motor — the benchmark central drive system on the e-bike market — and fitted with a 500 Wh battery for serious range, this versatile e-MTB is built to handle everything without compromise: coastal cycling paths, Bayonne's backstreets, the roads of the Basque hinterland, the tracks between Ainhoa and La Rhune.

🌊 Where the other VAEs in the catalogue stop at the tarmac, the Lapierre Performance keeps going. It tackles the trails, handles the gravel, adapts to the mixed terrain that makes the Basque Country so appealing.

🏔️ From 10am to 6pm , from €50 at the Takamaka shop  — the best performance-to-freedom ratio in the e-bike catalogue.

How the activity works

1

🛒 Step 1 — 9h30am: collect at the shop & terrain briefing

Head to the Takamaka shop from 9h30am. The team hands over the Lapierre Performance, adjusts the saddle to your measurements, and walks you through the Bosch assistance modes (Eco, Tour, Sport, Turbo) and their effects on range. It's also the ideal moment for a terrain briefing: which itinerary based on your level and goals — relaxed coastal ride, road into the hinterland, or mixed tracks toward the heights? The team knows the territory.
2

🌊 Step 2 — Morning: warm-up on the coast

The ride starts naturally on the cycling paths and seafront — a few flat kilometres to get a feel for the Bosch system and understand how the motor responds at different assistance modes. The mid-drive assistance is fluid and precise, the sensation of effortless power immediate. Then, if it's on your programme, head inland.
3

🏔️ Step 3 — Exploration: where the other e-bikes stop

This is the unique strength of this e-MTB. The trails between Ainhoa and La Rhune, the gravel roads toward the Basque heights, the mixed passages that combine tarmac and track — the Lapierre Performance handles them all with the same ease. The 500 Wh battery secures the range on long outings, the Bosch modes manage the power according to the gradient. You explore without counting kilometres.
4

🔁 Step 4 — 6pm: back to the shop

Back to the Takamaka shop before 6pm. Quick bike check, hand it over. You leave with 8 hours of Basque Country in your legs — and probably a list of all the trails you didn't have time to explore yet.

FAQ

What sets this Performance e-bike apart from the other e-bikes in the catalogue?

Two major differences. First, the motor: this bike is fitted with a Bosch Active Line mid-drive — the benchmark on the market — while the other e-bikes in the catalogue use a Bafang 250W rear-wheel motor. The Bosch mid-drive offers more natural, more precise, and more effective assistance on climbs. Second, the type of bike: it's a versatile e-MTB, capable of riding on the road but also on tracks and trails — where the other catalogue e-bikes are confined to tarmac.

What is the Bosch Active Line motor and why is it better?

Bosch is the absolute benchmark motor manufacturer in the global e-bike market — their motors equip the best electric bike brands worldwide. The Active Line is the version designed for mixed urban and extra-urban riding: powerful, precise, and with a particularly natural pedalling feel. Mid-drive (at the pedals) rather than wheel-drive offers better weight distribution, progressive assistance that matches the cyclist's effort perfectly, and superior efficiency on climbs. On the Basque hills, the difference is immediate.

What is the real-world range of the 500 Wh battery?

The 500 Wh battery is one of the largest in the Takamaka catalogue. In real-world conditions on mixed terrain (road + track) with moderate assistance (Tour or Eco mode), range can exceed 100km — more than enough for an 8-hour day (10am–6pm). In Turbo mode or on very hilly terrain, range will be lower.

Is this bike suitable for gravel tracks or MTB trails?

Yes — that's precisely the advantage of an e-MTB over the other e-bikes in the catalogue. This Lapierre Performance is equipped to ride on gravel tracks, forest paths, and the mixed trails of the Basque hinterland. It's not an extreme downhill mountain bike — but for the tracks between Ainhoa and La Rhune, the white roads of the Soule region, or the trails toward Espelette, it's perfectly suited. Talk to the Takamaka team about your planned itinerary to confirm compatibility.

What itineraries can you ride in a full day from Biarritz on this e-MTB?

In 8 hours on this e-bike, the horizons open considerably. On road: Vélodyssée to Hendaye (30km), Bayonne loop and return (about 60km), road to Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Ciboure. On mixed road/track: climb toward Ainhoa on back roads, exploration of the heights around Espelette, approach to the Col de Saint-Ignace and the first La Rhune trails. The Takamaka team can put together a custom programme based on your level and interests.
