Description

🚴 A full-day road bike rental in Biarritz is the formula for rides worth planning — the kind where you get up early, fill the bidons, check the pedals, and head out with every intention of coming back with properly tired legs.

⛰️ On the Lapierre Sensium 3.0 (9.7kg, 50-34 double chainring, 11/34 cassette) from 9am to 6pm from the Takamaka shop, the Basque Country's great loops come within reach: the road toward Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and the Pyrenean foothills, the Cols d'Irouléguy and d'Ispéguy deep into Basque country, the coastal loop Biarritz–Hendaye–Fuenterrabía with the descent into Spain.

🏔️ The Basque Country is one of Europe's most beautiful and varied cycling territories — flat coastal sections to warm up, gradient cols to suffer, technical descents to savour. All of it in a day from Biarritz, with LOOK KEO pedals if you have your own (€5 supplement), from €40.

How the activity works

1

🔧 Step 1 — 9am: collect & bike setup at the shop

From 9am at the Takamaka shop (13 avenue de la Marne, Biarritz). The team brings out the Lapierre Sensium 3.0, sets saddle height, setback, and stem to your measurements, and fits your LOOK KEO pedals if you've brought them (€5 supplement). Helmet and repair kit handed over. Quick exchange about your day's programme — and there's time for a coffee at the bakery next door if you're early enough.
2

🌊 Step 2 — Morning: warming up on the coast

The ride starts gently on the seafront — a few flat kilometres to warm the legs and settle into a rhythm. Depending on your chosen route, you head down toward Hendaye to pick up the first inland roads, or up toward Bayonne to gain altitude gradually. The Lapierre Sensium responds well from the first pedal strokes.
3

⛰️ Step 3 — Col time

The heart of a road bike day in the Basque Country is the cols. Col d'Irouléguy, Col de Mehatze, Col d'Ispéguy, the climb toward La Rhune from Ascain — depending on your loop, two to three cols are within reach of a full day from Biarritz. The 34/34 cassette ratio earns its keep on the steep gradients, and the descents reward the effort. This is why you come to the Basque Country by road bike.
4

🏁 Step 4 — Return & hand back before 6pm

The return to Biarritz often comes via the coast — a few kilometres of negative elevation to finish off the legs and catch your breath before the shop. Back before 6pm, pedals off, quick check. You leave with a proper ride in your legs and, in all likelihood, the desire to come back tomorrow for another loop.

Why choose Takamaka ?

Takamaka was born from a desire to develop outdoor experiences rooted in the territories themselves.

Over the years, the network has grown around several destinations while preserving a local and human-centered approach. The goal has never been to standardize formats, but to adapt each project to the specific characteristics of the location and the expectations of participants.

FAQ

Is the Lapierre Sensium 3.0 suited to a long full-day ride?

Absolutely — that's precisely why it was chosen. The Sensium 3.0 is built for long rides: light frame (9.7kg), endurance geometry that protects the back and shoulders over time, and a 50-34/11-34 transmission that covers every situation — flat coastal roads to steep cols. Over 100km and beyond, its versatility makes the real difference.

Can you ride into Spain with this bike on a full-day rental?

Yes — and it's one of the most popular outings from Biarritz. The French-Spanish border is about 25–30km via the coastal road. Hendaye, Fuenterrabía (Hondarribia), and San Sebastián (30km beyond the border) are all within a full day for a decent level cyclist. Bring ID if you're crossing the border, and confirm that the rental conditions allow riding into Spain.

What does the included repair kit actually contain?

The repair kit covers the essentials for a standard puncture (inner tube, tyre lever, mini-pump). For a long day in sometimes isolated terrain, bringing a CO2 inflator or quality mini-pump and a multi-tool is also recommended if you're used to long rides.

Should I book my frame size in advance?

Yes — available sizes run from S to XL, and certain sizes can be in high demand in peak season. Always specify your frame size when booking online to ensure your bike will be available and set up at your arrival. If you're unsure of your size, contact the team on 05.59.24.11.84.
