Description

🚴 A week-long road bike rental in Biarritz is the formula for serious cyclists who plan their holidays around the bike.

🏔️ With the Lapierre Sensium 3.0 at your disposal for 7 consecutive days, you can build the programme you've been dreaming of: Col d'Irouléguy on Monday, the Saint-Jean-de-Luz–Ascain–La Rhune loop on Tuesday, a long transfer into Soule on Wednesday, a coastal recovery day on Thursday, Spain on Friday via Fuenterrabía and Donostia, then Col de Mehatze with Cols d'Ispéguy and de Burdincurutcheta on Saturday. Sunday: let the legs decide.

⛰️ The Basque Country is one of the densest and most beautiful road cycling territories in Europe — Pyrenean cols, Atlantic coast classics, and legendary roads that have seen the Tour de France and the Vuelta come through. Seven days is exactly the right length to do it justice.

How the activity works

1

🔧 Step 1 — Day 1: collect, setup & terrain briefing

On arrival in Biarritz, head straight to the Takamaka shop (13 avenue de la Marne). The team brings out your Lapierre Sensium 3.0, sets it to your measurements — saddle, setback, stem — and fits your LOOK KEO pedals if you've brought them. This is also the ideal moment for a terrain briefing: what's the plan for the week, which cols to start with, which sections to avoid based on current conditions. The team knows these roads — make full use of them.
2

⛰️ Step 2 — Days 2 to 4: the iconic cols

The freshest days are often the best — use them to tackle the priority climbs on your list. Col d'Irouléguy, Col de Saint-Ignace (La Rhune), Col de Mehatze, Col d'Ispéguy — each has its own character, profile, and views. On the Sensium 3.0, the 50-34/11-34 transmission handles the gradients without ever leaving you out of gears. The technical descents that follow reveal the frame's stiffness and precision.
3

🌊 Step 3 — Days 5 & 6: Soule, Spain & the legendary roads

With the legs fully tuned and the nearby cols checked off, the later days open up more ambitious itineraries. A transfer into the Soule and its isolated cols (Larrau, Burdincurutcheta), or a big cross-border day toward Fuenterrabía, San Sebastián, and the Spanish Basque roads — radically different landscapes and profiles, reachable in a day from Biarritz with the right legs.
4

🏁 Step 4 — Last day: closing ride & return

On the last day, a ride that matches what's left in your legs — often a quiet coastal loop to lock in the final images of the week. Back to the Takamaka shop on time, pedals off, bike returned. You leave with a full week of Basque Country cycling in your legs — and a list of cols to come back for next year.

Why choose Takamaka ?

Takamaka was born from a desire to develop outdoor experiences rooted in the territories themselves.

Over the years, the network has grown around several destinations while preserving a local and human-centered approach. The goal has never been to standardize formats, but to adapt each project to the specific characteristics of the location and the expectations of participants.

In the event of a mechanical issue during the week, contact the Takamaka shop immediately on 05.59.24.11.84. The team is based in Biarritz and can handle standard repairs.

Can I ride into Spain during the week?

Yes — and it's one of the most memorable rides of the week. From Hendaye (25–30km from Biarritz), the Spanish border opens up to Fuenterrabía (Hondarribia), then San Sebastián (30km from the border) and the Spanish Basque roads beyond. Bring your ID and confirm with Takamaka that the rental conditions cover use of the bike in Spain.

Do you need to be a strong cyclist to rent a road bike for a week?

The weekly road bike formula is designed for practising cyclists — those who ride regularly and can handle multiple 3–7 hour outings within a week. The Basque Country offers profiles for every level (easy coastal rides through to serious mountain stages), but most of the cols clients target require a solid fitness base. If you haven't ridden in several months, the half-day or full-day rental is a better starting point.

Can we book several road bikes for a cycling group?

Yes — booking multiple Lapierre Sensium 3.0s for a week is perfectly possible and makes the Takamaka shop an ideal base for a cycling group on a training camp or organised ride in the Basque Country. Contact the team on 05.59.24.11.84 or at biarritz@takamaka.fr to check availability, confirm sizes, and arrange group arrival logistics.
