Description

🚲 A full-day city bike rental in Biarritz means nine hours of urban freedom — from 9am to 6pm — to do everything, see everything, and miss nothing the Basque Coast has to offer from a saddle.

☀️ In the morning, Biarritz's streets are yours before the crowds: climb to the city's heights for the panorama over the Atlantic and the Pyrenees, drop down to the Côte des Basques for the early light on the waves, stop at the Halles market for supplies.

🌊 In the afternoon, head to Anglet's beaches — 11km of sand reachable in 20 minutes along the cycling path from the shop — or take the Vélodyssée toward Bayonne for a there-and-back cultural ride along the Adour.

🏖️ The Takamaka city bike — lightweight, 3 × 7-speed (21 gears), lock and helmet included — is the perfect companion for a full day without a car, without parking stress, without complications, 250 metres from the Grande Plage, from €25.

How the activity works

1

🛒 Step 1 — Book online & pick up at the shop

Reserve your city bike directly online at the Takamaka website and select your extras (basket, child seat, phone holder). Then head to the shop, 250 metres from the Grande Plage. The team hands over your bike adjusted to your height, helmet and lock included. A few route suggestions based on your plans, and you're ready to take on the city.
2

🌊 Step 2 — The seafront: the natural first ride

From the moment you leave the shop, the Biarritz seafront is right there. Follow the Grande Plage, pass the Casino Municipal, drop down to the Virgin's Rock, come back up via Port Vieux — by bike, this classic circuit takes less than an hour and reveals Biarritz from angles impossible on foot. The cycle path runs along the waterfront and the hills are managed effortlessly thanks to the 21-speed gearing.
3

🏖️ Step 3 — Beaches and neighbourhoods: free exploration

With the rest of your half-day, explore as you please: the Côte des Basques beach and its view of the Pyrenees, the Halles market in the heart of the city, the boutiques on rue Gambetta, the fishing harbour, or the city heights for the panorama. The city bike is perfect for this kind of wandering — easy to lock up, quick to reclaim, no parking worries at all.
4

🔁 Step 4 — Return to the shop on time

At the end of your day, bring the bike back to the Takamaka shop within the agreed time. Quick check, equipment returned — and you head off with a version of Biarritz in your memory that you might not have discovered in quite the same way, or in quite the same time, on foot.

Why choose Takamaka ?

Takamaka was born from a desire to develop outdoor experiences rooted in the territories themselves.

Over the years, the network has grown around several destinations while preserving a local and human-centered approach. The goal has never been to standardize formats, but to adapt each project to the specific characteristics of the location and the expectations of participants.

FAQ

Is the city bike suitable for Biarritz's hills?

Yes — and that's actually one of its strengths. The 3-chainring, 7-speed transmission offers 21 gear combinations, making it easy to adapt your effort to the climbs and descents that define Biarritz. Whether you're heading up toward the Plateau de l'Atalaye, the Côte des Basques, or the Anglet heights, the right gear lets you maintain a comfortable pace without getting out of breath.

What are the best city bike routes in Biarritz?

From the Takamaka shop, several half-day circuits are within easy reach: the beaches tour (Grande Plage → Miramar → Port Vieux → Côte des Basques), the city centre loop (Halles market → Rue Gambetta → Casino → Virgin's Rock), a ride toward Anglet and its 11km of beaches to the north, or simply the full seafront in both directions. The shop team can suggest the circuit that best fits your time and preferences.

What's included in the day city bike rental?

The rental includes the city bike (lightweight, 3 × 7 speeds), a lock, and a helmet — everything you need to ride safely from the moment you leave the shop. Optional extras are available at additional cost: basket for your belongings, panniers, child seat, and phone holder for navigation.

Can we rent multiple city bikes for a family or group outing?

Yes — multi-bike rental is available, making this a great option for a family or group outing in Biarritz. To book several bikes or check availability, contact the Takamaka shop on 05.59.24.11.84 or book directly online.
