Description

🚲 A week-long trekking bike rental in Biarritz is the choice of the holidaymaker who wants to experience the Basque Country differently — not from a car, not from a terrace, but from a saddle, every morning, at their own pace.

🗺️ Seven consecutive days is enough time to actually explore: Bayonne one day, Saint-Jean-de-Luz the next, Hendaye and Spain just across the border, the inland villages (Espelette, Ainhoa, the foothills of La Rhune) whenever the mood takes you. And on days when you don't feel like riding far, the bike doubles as the perfect urban transport to reach the Grande Plage or Biarritz's market.

💶 €140 for 7 consecutive days — just €20 per day, against €25 for a single-day rental.

🛣️ From the Takamaka shop 250 metres from the Grande Plage, directly on the Vélodyssée, helmet and lock included.

How the activity works

1

🛒 Step 1 — Book online & collect on arrival day

Reserve your week's rental online at the Takamaka website and choose your extras (basket, panniers, child seat, phone holder). On arrival in Biarritz, head to the Takamaka shop — 250 metres from the Grande Plage — to collect your bike adjusted to your height, helmet and lock included. The team also hands you route suggestions to start your week on the right pedal.
2

🗺️ Step 2 — Days 1 to 3: exploring close to home

The first days are often the best for getting your bearings and discovering the nearby territory: Biarritz's seafront, Anglet's beaches, the Vélodyssée toward Bayonne and the Adour, the local markets, the small harbours. You don't need to go far to be surprised — the Basque Country close to Biarritz is already a real discovery for anyone who takes the time to explore it by bike.
3

🌄 Step 3 — Days 4 to 6: ambition and distance

With your bearings found and your legs warmed up, the later days open up more ambitious destinations: Saint-Jean-de-Luz and its cobbled streets, Hendaye and Txingudi bay, the roads into the Basque hinterland (Espelette and its peppers, Ainhoa listed among France's Most Beautiful Villages, the foothills of La Rhune). Each day is a new adventure, each return to Biarritz a renewed pleasure.
4

🔁 Step 4 — Day 7 & return: the end of a great week

On the last day, enjoy a final few hours in the saddle before bringing your faithful companion back to the Takamaka shop. Quick check, equipment returned — and you leave carrying a whole week of the Basque Country by bike in your legs and your memory, far richer and more intimate than anything you'd have discovered by any other means.

Why choose Takamaka ?

Takamaka was born from a desire to develop outdoor experiences rooted in the territories themselves.

Over the years, the network has grown around several destinations while preserving a local and human-centered approach. The goal has never been to standardize formats, but to adapt each project to the specific characteristics of the location and the expectations of participants.

FAQ

Do I have to use the bike every day of the week?

No — the weekly rental covers 7 consecutive days during which the bike is at your disposal, whether you use it every day or not. That's precisely the advantage of this formula: you have the freedom to decide each morning based on your mood, the weather, and your plans. Some days you'll cover dozens of kilometres, others you might just take a short spin to the beach.

What destinations can I reach in a week from Biarritz?

A week is ideal for exploring the full range of the Basque Country by bike: Bayonne and the Adour to the north (8km), Anglet with its 11km of beaches, Saint-Jean-de-Luz (18km), Hendaye and Txingudi bay (30km), and inland, the roads toward Espelette, Ainhoa (one of France's Most Beautiful Villages), Sare, or the foothills of La Rhune. With strong legs, a day trip to San Sebastián in Spain from Hendaye is even within reach.

Can I do a multi-day itinerary with overnight stops on the way?

Absolutely — the weekly rental is perfectly suited to mini itineraries with one or two nights on the road. The optional panniers allow you to carry light luggage for a night away. The Vélodyssée stretch between Biarritz and Hendaye, with a night in Saint-Jean-de-Luz for instance, is a beautiful and accessible option even for non-expert cyclists. Mention your plans to the Takamaka team — they'll help you find the best itinerary.

How does the weekly rental work in practice?

Book online, collect your bike on the first day of your rental at the Takamaka shop (13 avenue de la Marne, 250m from the Grande Plage), and return it 7 days later within the agreed times. Exact pick-up and return times should be confirmed with the team on 05.59.24.11.84.

What is the Vélodyssée and which stretch can I ride from Biarritz?

The Vélodyssée (EV1) is Europe's great Atlantic cycling route — 1,300km from Saint-Nazaire to Hendaye. The Takamaka shop sits directly on it. In a week, you can cover a significant stretch in both directions: north toward Bayonne and the Landes beyond, and south toward Hendaye and the Spanish border, on well-signposted, secure paths with Atlantic scenery all the way.
